Survey logic with question skips is a premium feature often used for screening (filtration) questions at the beginning of a survey, but can also be used within the survey itself, allowing the respondent to jump to relevant sets of questions.
Example #1: Gender-based screening
You are conducting a survey about facial hair targeted towards men. To ensure relevant results, it would be prudent to filter out female respondents (assuming women typically do not have beards).
1. Create a screening question asking the respondent to select their gender.
2. Click on the question and select Logic in the bubble.
3. A popup window appears, where you define the survey logic rules.
4. Click + Create a rule in the "Female" answer row, then select the rule you want to apply. In this
case, anyone selecting "Female" will submit their survey, as they do not fit the inclusion criteria.
5. Questions with a logic rule applied will show a number next to the text "Logic" when the question is clicked.
Example #2: Car model-based screening
As the president of a local car enthusiast club, you want to gather information on the most popular car model in your area. To avoid owners of model A from answering questions about model B, you can apply survey logic to redirect respondents to the appropriate set of questions. Here’s how:
1. Create a question asking respondents which car model they own.
2. To create a rule, click on the question and select Logic in the bubble.
3. Click + Create a rule and choose the appropriate action from the drop-down menu for each answer. This ensures respondents are directed to the correct set of questions. If a respondent does not own a relevant model, they can submit the survey. The number next to the question corresponds to the page number.
Please Note:
You cannot apply a rule that directs respondents from page 1 to page 2, as that is the logical progression. For example, if questions about the Sandero model are on page 2, you can only apply skips from page 1 to pages 3 or 4. However, you can direct respondents from pages 2 or 4 to submit their survey, even if the survey has 20 pages.
4. Create a rule set for follow-up questions. For advanced surveys, you can apply multiple layers of rules. For example, after respondents answer what they like about a particular model, the survey can be submitted automatically.
Use the page selector on the left-hand side to locate your question and apply the Submt answer logic to all responses.
5. Click SAVE, and your rules will be saved.
